Lincoln, NE (Sports Network) - A former star Nebraska cornerback has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer following a fight early Saturday morning.
Alfonzo Dennard, who is likely to be picked in the NFL Draft on Thursday, was taken to Lancaster County jail on suspicion of felony third-degree assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and suspicion of midemeanor assault, according to the police report detailed in the Lincoln Journal Star.
Dennard was arrested as downtown bars closed, the paper said. Police said he struck another male before officers intervened. Another altercation then took place and Dennard was said to have pushed an officer, then punched him once on the left side of his face.

When the Indianapolis Colts selected Andrew Luck with the number one pick in last week's NFL Draft, it was no doubt a proud moment for Stanford. His presence helped catapult the Cardinal from an afterthought in the Pac-12 to a national powerhouse, and after leading the team to back-to-back BCS Bowl berths and tossing 82 touchdowns in his illustrious career, he was more than worthy of being Stanford's first top overall pick since John Elway nearly 30 years ago.
