Mavs land Elton Brand

07/13/12 10:59 PM

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks continued to retool their roster on Friday with the addition of veteran forward Elton Brand.

The Mavericks submitted the winning bid for Brand, who was let go by the 76ers on Wednesday via the one-time amnesty provision in the new collective bargaining agreement. reported Dallas' bid to be $2.1 million, meaning Philadelphia will have to pay the remaining $18.2 million of Brand's contract.

The move is one of several the Mavericks have orchestrated since Wednesday, including the signing of center Chris Kaman and the acquisition of point guard Darren Collison and swingman Dahntay Jones from the Pacers via trade.

Brand, the No. 1 overall pick of the 1999 draft, averaged 11.0 points and 7.2 rebounds in 60 games with the 76ers last season. His numbers dipped to 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 13 playoff games before Philadelphia bowed out to the Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The 33-year-old vet has averaged 18.3 points and 9.4 rebounds over 13 seasons -- 860 games -- with the Bulls, Clippers and 76ers.
